From Trash to Treasure: Our First House Flip Journey

In February 2024, we dove headfirst into our first house flip—a project that could only be described as next level. This wasn’t just a fixer-upper; it was a full-blown hoarder house that was barely livable. The smell? Unforgettable in the worst way. Trash piled everywhere. The previous owners had let their dogs use every inch of the house (and even the back deck) as a bathroom. Fur coated everything. It was the definition of disgusting. I lost count of how many times I muttered, “This is f’ing gross.” It was so gross that when we got home, our clothes would come right off and into the washing machine and we got right into the shower.
But underneath the madness, we saw the bones of something great. This house had potential—it just needed someone crazy enough to bring it back to life. Luckily, we are pretty crazy. Calling this project a huge undertaking doesn’t even come close to describing the challenge we took on.
Just when you thought there couldn't possibly be anymore trash, there was more. A LOT more:
We opted to hire a crew of four to assist with all of the trash that was underneath the house. I can't imagine how much longer this project would have taken us if we didn't hire the crew.
The crew managed to fill 3 dumpsters with just the trash from under the house.
The house was a true disaster inside and out.
In the end, we filled one 17-yard dumpster and eight 20-yard dumpsters, totaling 177 yards of trash and demolition debris! However, after some demolition and cleanup, you can start to see a glimpse of what the house could become.
Stay tuned for updates!
